Consultation and Adjunctive Treatment
MY BACKGROUND
I am a licensed psychologist in Oregon (#1534) and have been providing clinical and other psychological services for over 30 years. I have both a masters (1989) in Agency Counseling and a doctorate in Counseling Psychology (1995). Over the years, I have provided specialty training on health at every size, sexual assault recovery and prevention, childhood to adulthood interpersonal violence, PTSD, advocacy for and services to LGBTIA folks, multicultural interventions, and supervision provision to other supervising clinicians. I approach the consultation or adjunctive treatment services within a multicultural and trauma informed framework. In addition, not only did I specialize in the following three areas enough to provide trainings yet also had leadership roles at universities in these areas.
EMDR Adjunctive Treatment
I am an EMDR therapist. EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) in which bilateral stimulation (i.e., side to side eye movements) is used when accessing traumatic or disturbing experiences. EMDR helps with healing that is blocked, decreasing flashbacks, and identifying more helpful way of thinking about oneself (for more information go to https://www.emdr.com/what-is-emdr/). I not only completed the 50 hours of basic training for EMDR but then spent two years in consultation becoming Certified by the EMDR International Association (Certification granted 6/1/2020) and have continued in an EMDR focused peer consult. I also integrate ego state (parts work) interventions when doing adjunctive EMDR as needed. Ego state work is acknowledging the "parts" of self, such as a hurt or angry part that might be difficult to accept and impacting the EMDR process.
Psycho-social Assessment to Access Gender Affirming Medical Care
In working with those who identify as gender non-conforming, non-binary or genderqueer who are experiencing gender dysphoria and are wanting to be assessed as informed and ready for gender congruent hormone treatment or surgical intervention, I utilize the WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) Standards of Care, V8 with an informed consent model. I have been providing support for those who identify as gender non-conforming, including writing support letters, for over 25 years.
Supervision Consultation
I began supervising therapy trainees in the early 1990's and continued increasing this role in my practices while transitioning to providing more consultation to the supervisors who are directly providing supervision to trainees or early licensed clinicians. My background includes coordinating practicum programs, teaching supervision skills, becoming training director of APA accredited psychology program for doctoral internship and post-doctoral psychologists, supervising licensed staff regarding supervision provision to emerging psychologists. The last few years I have been providing consultation to training directors and individual licensed supervisors regarding supervision skill development and/or process.
